The Greenest Buildings on the Upper East Side

In celebration of Earth Day Upper East Side Apartments is profiling the greenest buildings on the Upper East Side along with their available apartments for sale and for rent according to StreetEasy. If you are searching for a more eco-friendly apartment you might have heard of LEED constructed or approved, but what does that exactly mean?  LEED means Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Developers and designers can achieve LEED approval by installing for example low-flow water systems and low VOC-emitting carpets allowing you to live for a healthier living environment.

The Laurel-400 East 67th Street

The Laurel at 400 East 67th Street is a newly designed LEED constructed condo in Lenox Hill. This 31 story condominium is a luxury building with 12,000 square feet of amenities including a 50 foot lap pool, bike room and new strength training equipment.

 

The average recorded sales are $1,587 per square foot. There are five active listings in this condo building ranging from 3 beds 3 bath at $5,800,000 to a studio for $745,000.

 

The Lucida-151 East. 85th Street

The Lucida is the first LEED-certified Upper East Side condominium. This full service 20 story condo building is located at 151 East 85th Street placing its residents in prime location off Lexington avenue near museum mile and close to 4,5,6 trains.

 

The designers of this beautiful glass building were Cook + Fox Architects who are best known for designing the Bank of America at One Bryant Park. These designers have also bestowed upon Broadway the first green theater called Henry Miller’s Theater on 43rd street.

 

Amenities in this building include indoor playground, full time doorman, fitness and spa center along with indoor pool. The average price per square foot is $2,474, and currently there are two sale listings available. A 4 bed and 4 bath for $6,000,000 in apartment #19B listed by Douglas Eliman. 180 East 93rd Street

Further uptown you could find a rental building located at 180 East 93rd Street in Carnegie Hill. This limestone and brick condominium is four stories high building comprising of only nine units. This green building provides luxurious amenities such as wine coolers on each floor and a rainwater system for private gardening.

 

The average sales per square foot were $1,519. There are currently not any active listings for this condominium.

 

The Caldwell-1520 York Avenue

The Caldwell at 1520 York Avenue is a unique green building that is managed by Glenwood. They have incorporated a new technology in this building called Demand Energy’s Demand Shifter. It’s essentially a battery storing energy that can be used for later use during peak and non-peak times.  This rental building has a 24 hour doorman, and spacious one and two bedroom units. The building has a garage and is only a block away to FDR drive.

 

The average rent is $2,666. There are no availabilities as of now.
